Tips for a Successful Airbrush Tanning Application
Airbrush tanning is designed to be an "Event Tan" we recommend that schedule your appointment at least 24 hours before your special occasion.
Gently shave the night before, and if waxing you should wait a full day or two before your appointment to give your skin a chance to recover from any irritation. For areas that you do not shave, and for Men with body hair, you may trim down your hair. Remember, long body hair may interfere with the application, and may result in uneven tanning in that area.
Before your airbrush tanning appointment, make sure that you shower and exfoliate your skin. A soft body brush or sponge is recommended. You may use exfoliating beads or a scrub, preferably one with an oil free base. Products with oil should not be used a day prior to your airbrush tanning application.
Do not use any deodorants or perfume.
For best results DO NOT wear make up to your appointment.
We recommend applying an oil-free moisturizer just before your appointment to your elbows, knees, and the top of your feet and hands concentrating on the area between your fingers and toes, and any other areas that tends to be overly dry.
We will provide you with a cap to protect your hair during the application.
It is best to wear loose fitting clothing to the appointment and in darker colors. Loose gym clothes work well.
During your airbrush tanning application a dark colored swimsuit is your best choice. Most clients bring their own swim wear, but we do have complimentary disposable thong bikini bottoms available at the salon, if you prefer. You may apply your tan topless; however we do insist that wear a bikini bottom.
It takes about 15 minutes for the airbrush tanning solution to be applied, and about 10 minutes for the solution to dry after the application.
How to Care for your Airbrush Tan
After the sunless spray tanning application, it takes about 6 to 8 hours for the sunless tanning process to fully develop. You can safely shower at this time using a gentle soap.
Avoid doing dishes, activities in water, or excessive sweating, in the first 8 hours, this may lead to an uneven tan.
Yes, it is normal for the bronzing pigment to wash away with the first shower, this is NOT your tan washing off, it is simply the temporary bronzing agent, that we use to see where the product has been applied, rinsing away.
If you are having your Airbrush tan applied in the evening, and you go to sleep before taking a shower, you may notice the bronzer residue on your sheets; this may not permanently stain your sheets if you wash them immediately. Always use your best judgment with all fabrics you come in contact with before the bronzing agent is rinsed from your skin.
During the next 24 hours a more golden color appears thanks to the erythrulose, an ingredient that causes the skin to appear tan. Your tan should last 7 to 10 days, with the best results on the second through fifth days.
If needed, a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide may be applied to correct any areas that may have become over pigmented, but be careful not to rub off the color completely.
Keeping the skin moist with a hydrating moisturizer after each shower will help the tanning effects last longer.
Shaving, using exfoliants, or washing with a loofa or sponge, will cause the tan to fade quicker. Pat, don't rub when you dry after your shower.
Sunless tanning solutions do not have sunscreen, and will not create a "base" for UV exposure. Always use sunscreen when outdoors.
The tanning solution is FDA approved and reacts only with the upper epidermal layers of your skin.
This treatment is not suitable for anyone experiencing psoriasis, eczema, cuts, and abrasions or during the first three months of pregnancy.
Best of all, do what works for you, and enjoy your golden tan.
